Product / Service

  • Tassal Group is a vertically integrated salmon and seafood grower, processor, seller and marketer

  • Tassal sells seafood both domestically and internationally

  • The process for farming salmon is as follows:

    • Salmon begins life as eggs in freshwater hatcheries

    • The eggs are incubated and hatch after 7-8 weeks

    • Salmon are then put onto feed

    • At 7 to 8 months, the young salmon (Smolt) are transferred to floating net pens in the sea (pictured)

    • The fish are farmed for up to 2 years in the sea, at which point they are then harvested

  • Tassal’s processing plants then process the fish, grade it in terms of size and quality and bin it or box it for further processing into a range of products including fresh, smoked, canned and frozen salmon

  • Tassal is the only global salmon company to have an Aquaculture Stewardship Council certification across all salmon marine leases

  • Salmon fish has a low carbon footprint and is high in Omega 3

  • Tassal acquired De Costi Seafoods on 1 July 2015.  De Costi Seafoods sell a range of pre-packed, chilled and frozen seafood

  • Tassal also operates the Superior Gold and Tasmanian Smokehouse brands


  • Tassal Limited was formed in 1986, the same year it opened its first farm in Dover, Tasmania

  • Tassal listed on the ASX in November 2003


  • Tassal serves both retail and wholesale customers

  • Tassal operates in 6 regions around the south of Tasmania producing over 25,000 tonnes of salmon per year

  • Tassal’s largest retail customers are supermarkets, most notably Woolworths and Coles
